BRIEF INTRO

The Independent Continental Youth Advisory Council on AfCFTA is a youth-led body initiated by young people from the continent of Africa, under guidance and stewardship of YouLead Africa, the MSTCDC and GIZ African Union Office.

The Independent Continental Youth Advisory Council on AfCFTA was officially unveiled on April 29th by H.E. Wamkele Mene - Secretary General, AfCFTA Secretariat represented by Mr. Sebahizi Prudence - Chief Technical Officer, AfCFTA Secretariat and details can be found here. The council was launched on the 9th November 2021 by our Patron H.E Jakaya Kikwete Former President of the Republic of Tanzania, in the presence of the AfCFTA Secretariat Officials and youth leaders from the African Continent during the YouLead Africa Summit 2021.

OUR VISION

To facilitate the institutionalization of youth participation in the decision-making process and Implementation processes of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

OUR MISSION

Mobilize & empower young people to participate in Intra-African Trade .

The Council has established over 54 Country Chapters and engaging 10 youth in each member state. Important to note is that the Council was created following a recommendation from an AfCFTA Youth inclusion study that showed lack of structures to meaningfully engage youth in the AfCFTA related processes, a copy of the report is attached here.It is Important to note that the Independent Continental Youth Advisory Council on AfCFTA (ICOYACA) is an affiliated entity of YouLead Africa and YouLead Africa is a joint initiative (partnership) of the East African Community (EAC) and MS Training Center for Development Cooperation (MSTCDC). Because of this, any and all contractual arrangements will be entered with MS Training Center for Development Cooperation (MSTCDC) asthe legal entity/physical host and sponsor of ICOYACA and ICOYACA is the implementing entity. Any funds would also be transferred to bank accounts belonging to MS Training Center for Development Cooperation (MSTCDC).

YouLead Africa provides technical support to the council will continue providing the necessary support and guidance even when it becomes self-reliant and the council will continue to be a transitional home for the youth who will trained in the business Bootcamps.
